SCiM Student Conference in Maribor

The Student Conference in Maribor (SCiM) is an annual international student conference held in Maribor, Slovenia, that brings together over 50 students from around the world. For ten days, participants engage in a range of educational and entertaining workshops, while also being encouraged to discuss different topics that were provocative and interesting. Beyond that, SCiM offers a variety of fun afternoon and evening activities, providing participants with a full experience, filled with joy, excitement and fun.

We take pride in SCiM being considered a smaller conference, compared to other SOrCE conferences, because we believe it offers a more personal, close-knit experience that fosters meaningful connections. It allows all attendees to fully engage with each other and the local culture, creating lasting friendships and a more captivating learning environment.

The main purpose of the conference

The main purpose of SCiM is to create a space for young people from around the world to connect, share perspectives, and develop critical insights on different issues. This year, our focus is on social impact and on how individuals and communities can work together to create meaningful change.  Through workshops, lectures, and discussions, the conference aims to inspire participants to deeply engage with topics that affect youth and society, foster awareness and collaborative problem-solving, especially on pressing social issues and topics relevant to youth. Additionally, SCiM encourages students to unite and experience the city of Maribor through different activities, explore Slovenia on a cross-country excursion and establish new friendships.

Coincidence? We think not! Twenty-six times already, SCiM has been a place where people meet, talk, question, and grow together. Each year adds a new layer, and in 2026 we’re ready to take the experience one step further. Expect deeper conversations, interactive workshops, and experiences that stay with you, right here in Maribor, Slovenia.

The first SCiM was held in 1996, marking the beginning of a dynamic platform for international students to engage in thought-provoking discussions on a variety of impactful topics. Over the years, we have tackled issues such as nationalism, student mobility, public education access, employment, and the future of Europe.
